What we teach

Our curriculum takes each student from wherever they start, step by step:

• Qur'an reading: from the Arabic letters and the Noorani Qaida to reading fluently from the mushaf.
• Tajweed: the rules of recitation, taught from the very first lesson.
• Hifz: memorisation with regular revision, recited back to the tutor.
• Arabic language: reading, writing, understanding and conversation.
• Islamic Studies: the steps of Salah, duas, Seerah and adab.

Our tutors

Our tutors are native Arabic speakers who teach in fluent English, so students learn the correct sounds from the start and understand every explanation. They are Al-Azhar graduates and Ijazah holders, and teaching is their full-time job.

An Ijazah is a certified licence to teach Qur'an recitation, earned by reciting the whole Qur'an to a qualified teacher who holds one.

Boys and men learn with a male teacher; mothers and daughters with a female teacher.

• One to one, online. One tutor and one student, with the tutor's full attention for the whole class.
• The same tutor every class.
• Flexible times, seven days a week, at the times you choose.
• A written progress report every month: what was covered, what improved and what still needs work.
• Parents are welcome to sit in on any lesson.

Who we teach

Children and adults, mostly families in the UK, from complete beginners upwards. Most of our families were referred by another family.

Our name

Islam Root takes its name from Surah Ibrāhīm, 14:24, which describes a good tree whose root is firm and whose branches reach the sky. For us, the root is a strong foundation in reading, Tajweed and Arabic, built lesson by lesson.
